The figma series is Good Smile Company’s signature posable action figure series in collaboration with Max Factory, offering non-scale, highly-posable action figures of a variety of iconic characters from different series.

Although officially known as non-scale, figma series action figures are similar in size to 1/12 scale action figures, and have a high degree of posability in key joints like the arms, legs and neck for creating dynamic and powerful poses.

The figma series has regular new releases throughout the year, with designs based on characters from popular anime, video games, internet culture, movies and more. For popular characters beloved by otaku, few series offer as much diversity as the figma series does.

The figma series has a long history and has innovated upon itself a lot during this time, increasing the quality and setting the standard for action figures. At HLJ, we’re proud to stock figma, and in today’s themed page, we want to highlight several figma in our warehouse that we think might appeal to you!

For Those Who Love DanDaDan

DanDaDan really feels like it came out of nowhere and took over in the anime scene, doesn’t it? Although not quite ‘big 3’ levels of popularity, I think there’s a reasonable argument to be made that Dandadan will be one of the most popular anime of the next few years, not just of 2025. The show’s blend of sci-fi weirdness, magic, comedy and frenetic action against supernatural threats has already charmed many.

For our first figma recommendation, we want to highlight one of the most important and unique designs in the show - Okarun’s transformed version, specifically his ‘turbo granny’ form, after the Yokai possesses him.

This figma has an astonishing amount of screen accuracy, recreating every aspect of this pretty bold and silly design from his tall white and red hair to the mask of teeth, which in the figure can be displayed on or off as an optional part. Turbo Granny herself comes in her Manekineko form as a tiny accessory, as well as alternate face pieces to change the direction of Okarun’s gaze.

For Those Who Want To Explore Hyrule

The Legend of Zelda is a series so important in video gaming culture - and perhaps culture, in general - that every new title is released with a bang! At the time of writing, people are already speculating about the upcoming live action movie. And that’s pretty magical.

Legend of Zelda figure releases aren’t much different, and people have lots of different opinions on what would make an ideal figure of legendary characters like Link, Zelda and Ganondorf. In recent years, we’ve gotten both Nendoroid and figma releases based on Link’s appearance in the highly popular Breath of The Wild game, but it took us a while to get any figures based on this design style for Zelda.

This new figma of Zelda is based on her appearance in the sequel to Breath of the Wild, Tears of The Kingdom. This version gives her the iconic ‘broken’ master sword as an accessory, as well as the Sheikah Slate and some alternate face pieces for displaying her with closed eyes, a neutral serious expression or a more happy expression.

Both Breath of The Wild and Tears of The Kingdom were praised for creating a new art direction for the series by blending elements of previous installments. For Those Who Want To ‘Rip & Tear’

Much like Zelda, the series Doom, and its aptly named protagonist, ‘Doom Slayer’ (also known by the community as ‘Doomguy’) has a long history in video game culture. The original video game Doom is well known for being released on a wide multitude of platforms over the decades, but also for its chaotic, violent gameplay, which offers a measured dose of chaotic blood and guts.

This version of Doomguy (Doom Slayer) is based on his appearance from the more recent version of Doom, specifically Doom: Eternal from 2020, coming equipped with amazing weapons like the Super Shotgun, Crucible Blade, BFG-9000, Equipment Launcher and even the DOOM Blade.

Whatever your favorite flavor of Doom, whether that’s the original, the weird Nintendo 64 version, the one you got running on your microwave somehow or one of these more modern sequels, you might get a kick out of this figure, which is very easy to pose into exquisite, different demon-slaying poses.

Nendoroid

The Nendoroid is another figure series from Good Smile Company with a completely different appeal, offering fun, small, chibi-style versions of your favorite characters.

Much like the figma, the Nendoroid is also completely posable, but the key difference is the high level of stylization. Everything in the Nendoroid series is completely consistent with almost everything else in the Nendoroid series, which also adds an ability to swap and customize. Put a Nendoroid head on another Nendoroid body and it’ll usually fit!

Nendoroids themselves are very cute, and almost all Nendoroids come with alternate facial expression pieces and only the most iconic of accessories fit for the character. Unlike some types of chibi figures that focus on consistency over character to the point of refusing to break conventions, Nendoroid does what’s best for the character in terms of design, structure and accessories for the figure and somehow still manages to create consistency between them.

Display dozens of Nendoroids from different eras together and they’ll look incredible, even if they’re from completely different series!

Nendoroid Recommendations

For Fans Of Kirby Of The Stars

Kirby, one of the less appreciated but still beloved characters from Nintendo is a fun example of a Nendoroid that prioritises character expression over strict consistency.

Given that Kirby’s body and head are basically… the same thing, the standard form of molding a large head and a smaller body which is typical to more humanoid characters wouldn’t work. To solve this, they created a Nendoroid that allows Kirby’s limbs to be freely moved around his body using magnets.

What results is probably the most accurate Kirby figure to be released, ever. Recreate his victory dances, his inhaling, his flight and every other iconic moment from any Kirby game using this fun Nendoroid.

It even comes with accessories needed to display other ‘copy abilities’ such as the hat and sword for the ‘sword’ ability and the hat for the ‘fire’ copy ability, as well as Kirby’s iconic star rod!

For Those Who Liked Arcane (2024)

If you enjoyed the animated series Arcane based on the popular MOBA League of Legends, you’ll likely appreciate this next recommendation, a Nendoroid of the fan-favorite character Jinx, based on her appearance in the show.

Unlike her base outfit in the game, the Arcane version is a lot more detailed and fits better with the fantasy steampunk setting of the series. This Nendoroid comes equipped with her ‘Rhino Gun’ rocket launcher weapon and ‘zap gun,’ both of which appear in memorable moments in the show.

Jinx’s signature wild personality is well-captured in the faceplates that come included, and other key features of her design, such as the gradient in her colored hair, her purple eyes and the shiny metallic detailing in her clothing are all represented properly in the Nendoroid.

For Those Who Liked NieR: Automata (2017)

The main character from NieR: Automata, 2b, has appeared in a lot of different figure series over the years. It felt like it came in multiple waves, with initial releases based on her appearance in the game, then a second wave of appearances in different scale figures when the anime released more recently.

As a result, the expectations for what makes a good 2b figure might be a bit higher. There are so many to compare it to that we have a lot of reference material for what to include and what to definitely avoid.

By adapting the character to the Nendoroid style, however, Good Smile Company created a really unique posable figure of the character. There are dozens of different scale figures of the character, but only one Nendoroid. It also happens to be very cute.

This version of 2b comes with both of her iconic weapons, the Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty, as well as a super cute version of the iconic Pod 042, plus a variety of hand parts, alternate faces and the ability to display 2b with or without her blindfold goggles. As a result, the Nendoroid is one of the most customizable figures of 2b, despite being a chibi-style figure.

Other characters like 9s and A2 also received Nendoroid figures, and the whole squad looks incredible when displayed together. They’re very posable for Nendoroid and easily compatible with weapons and accessories from the other characters, so recreating moments from the game such as when A2 receives 2b’s sword is a delight with these fun figures.

If figma is Good Smile Company’s primary posable action figure series and Nendoroid is a fun chibi alternative, the POP UP PARADE series fits into a unique place in the figure market, offering scale figurine quality figures at a better price point for the average collector. The POP UP PARADE series is mostly single characters in an iconic, fixed pose, at various sizes.

Much like the Nendoroid series, the POP UP PARADE series prioritizes character expression over maintaining a consistent scale. As a result, we’ve seen different ‘L’ and ‘XL’ and ‘SP’ sizes of POP UP PARADE for different sizes and scales of characters.

POP UP PARADE figures are excellent for new fans starting a collection - you don’t need to set anything up, swap any parts or worry about creating a pose - POP UP PARADE figures are ready to display pretty much straight out of the box, offering stylish figures of memorable characters from an array of different series.

For Those Walking The Path Of The Black Swordsman

Berserk is a classic series that brought new life into the ‘dark fantasy’ genre with its bold stories and powerful artwork. It’s had its fair share of figure releases over the years, but few are as refined as some of the more recent offerings based on the series from Good Smile Company. This POP UP PARADE offers a simple but brilliantly imposing figure of Guts in his ‘Black Swordsman’ attire at a special ‘L size.’

The size of this figure really helps add to its feeling. The sculpt shows Guts holding his giant great sword, the ‘dragon slayer’ over his shoulder, with his armor from the early part of the manga’s story equipped. Guts’ battle scars and torn up clothing are rendered in immaculate detail. It’s a really impressive figure from any angle!

For Fans Of Stealing Hearts

Persona 5 has a lot of iconic imagery within it, and the designs of the ‘Personas’ themselves are truly a sight to behold. ‘Arsene,’ the persona who inhabits the main character, Joker, is no different. Based on the iconic thief from classic literature, Arsene Lupin, this design fuses the picaresque with the demonic in one explosive character.

This is a special ‘SP’ size POP UP PARADE which utilizes multiple stands to keep Arsene looking like they are flying. The wingspan and texture on the figure is incredible and would make an awesome display piece for any Persona 5 collection!

For Fans Of Fire Emblem Three Houses

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was a record breaking success when it launched, renewing interest in the long-running strategy franchise with a fresh setting, a new gameplay style and loads of new characters.

This particular entry was so popular for the series that it seems the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will have some kind of connection to Three Houses, either as a sequel/prequel or a story set in the same world.

At the start of the game, you can choose to play as either a female or male version of the main character Byleth, a teacher at Garreg Moch Monastery who offers military tuition to the next generation of lords in Fodlan. For the Pop Up Parade release, both the male and female version of Byleth are available to display!

This allows you to display both and admire the subtle difference in their design and pose. The poses are completely different for the figures themselves and complement each other as display pieces.

Other GSC Figure Types

Good Smile Company also has a number of other figure series. For example, we’ve seen Hyper Body series as a figma alternative, which adds additional articulation for certain characters with different sizing and detail to the figma series.

In addition, Good Smile Company frequently releases standard scale figurines for different franchises. These always bring an exceptional level of quality in their sculpt, painting and general quality control.

In recent times, we’ve also seen GSC experiment with different types of figure series, such as the Huggy Good Smile series that offers small fixed figures in a highly cutesy style.

We’ve also recently seen the Brickroid series, a newer series that offers mini figures of iconic mecha in a cute limited articulation form that can be attached to stud plates similar to other construction toys. At the moment, three designs from the Evangelion series are available to preorder as Brickroids - we’re really looking forward to this series release!
