All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2025 Model Kit Report!
Published on: October 21st, 2025 by Todd McBrown
The 63rd All Japan Model & Hobby Show has now concluded! Here is a quick look at the top items from the show (in my opinion at least)!
Type 33 Heikegani
First up, a couple of surprises at the Bellfine booth. There are two reasons I am going to list Bellfine first! First, two of the subjects I found were quite interesting! Second, who doesn’t love a good surprise? Not just me apparently! The first one I am going to talk about here ended up being our most popular X post from the show, so a lot of you out there are also keen to see this release!
From the popular series and game ‘Tankhead’ by Emerson Tung comes the Type 33 Heikegani walker tank! No scale was listed, but given the size of the prototype we saw at the show, one has to wonder if it would look rather at home on a shelf with other 1/35 armor kits. The design of this one is quite stunning and we hope Bellfine continues to release more kits from this series! It's tentatively set to release in 2026! The detail tag for this item noted that they are still awaiting approval from the licensor, however as Mr. Tung himself retweeted our post we hope that’s a sign things will get approved!
Bladerunner 2049 Kits
Another surprise at the Bellfine booth was not just one kit, but three! Three new kits are on the way from the recent cult-favorite hit movie Bladerunner 2049, the sequel to the original 80’s cult favorite film. We are getting two of the spinners, K’s Spinner and Deckard’s Police Spinner! Both of those Spinners will be in 1/32nd scale. But the centerpiece had to be the 1/1 scale Deckard’s Blaster!
Master Grade ‘New Astray Red Frame’
Ok there is a bit of an elephant in the room so I am going to go ahead and talk a bit about Bandai here to get that out of the way. The soon to be released Perfect Grade Nu Gundam which we saw at the Shizuoka show last May was back again in all of its glory, and we also got a good look at the internals of the kit this time. Also Bandai did have a few new announcements at the show as well! The biggest of which being the Master Grade ‘New Astray Red Frame’! Also from GQuuux they announced the HG 1/144 Hambrabi. And perhaps more exciting for me was the Endless Waltz HG 1/144 Gundam Sandrock Custom! This is the first time Bandai is dipping into doing new kits from Endless Waltz which has this writer excited for a possible new tool kit of the EW Heavy Arms or Serpent Custom to be released one day!
1/72 Scale F-104 Starfighter
Ok back to scale! At the Fine Molds booth we got to see their new tool 1/72nd scale F-104 Starfighter kit in the flesh…or rather plastic! As with other recent new tool Fine Molds kits like the F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat, these new Starfighter kits look to be quite stunning in detail even for their size! These kits are releasing in December 2025 with pre-orders already open!
Kawasaki Ninja GPZ900R
Next up on my list was another item already announced a bit before the show. Hasegawa is making an all new tool kit of the iconic Kawasaki Ninja GPZ900R! At the Tokyo show we finally got to see this kit in the plastic, and it is looking as great as all of Hasegawa's recent new tool car and bike kits have been. Now lets see if they could possibly release a special Top Gun limited edition version someday to build the bike as ridden by Tom Cruise in the first Top Gun Movie!
Ki-84 Hayate
I’m going to throw another kit in this list which was a bit of a surprise for me, and a subject I was not expecting to see from this maker. Also as the image shows, it;s still in the planning stages and we may not see it until…. 2028! Yamashita Hobby, known mostly as a 1/700 ship manufacturer, looks to be expanding their horizons with a 1/72nd scale Ki-84 Hayate! We are always happy to see new tool 72nd scale kits of WWII fighters on the way, so this was a pleasant surprise even if it may be a few years before it gets released!
1/12 Scale Mazda 787B
Next up over at the Platz booth we saw some new releases on the way from Beemax! At the top of my list (even though we already saw it at the Shizuoka show) was their planned 1/12th scale Mazda 787B. The display looked similar to what we saw in May, though still this kit is hotly anticipated!
Also car related and shown at Shizuoka as well was the new tool 24th scale 80 series Supra as seen in the hit movie ‘The Fast and the Furious’ by Aoshima!
1/32 Scale F6F Hellcat
Another surprise for me to discover at this show was that Great Wall Hobby is going to be making a new kit of the venerable F6F Hellcat in 1/32nd scale! The few parts for this kit that they had on display at the show looked quite nice in my opinion. More new tool 1/32nd scale kits of famous WWII fighter aircraft are always welcome!
Plamo Improvement Commission
Tools! Tools! Tools! Saving the best for last perhaps? A number of interesting tools were on display at the show this year, and while I would love to be able to cover them all for this post, I’ll stick with items from one maker in particular, the Plamo Improvement Commission! Two items in particular at their booth are definitely going to be making their way into my tool collection. The first is the ‘Plamo Dry Oven FIT’, which is a microwave oven looking device for drying the paint on your model kits in a fast and timely manner! The second item which I absolutely have to have is their Work Light Luminous, which is a generously large 80cm long LED light bar! USB powered, adjustable brightness levels, and light warmth changes, as well as being versatile with the ability to either mount to a flat stand or table clamp, make this light just the ticket I’ve been looking for to shine some light on my modeling subjects!
Now let's talk about something that I noticed that wasn’t at the show! One interesting omission I was looking forward to checking out which could not be found was the interesting new kits on the way from Border Models! I saw a number of new items from them at the Shizuoka Hobby Show in May, including a giant flying battle ship. I was hoping to see more new details about its release at this show, but sadly it was nowhere to be found!
Well that wraps up our quick look at 10 things I found interesting at this hobby show. Was there anything there you saw that you think I missed and should have been covered? I can think of one, but sadly I’m not allowed to say! Let me know what you think in the comments! And with that we’re done with hobby shows for 2025. Tune in next year as we head back down to Shizuoka in May for the Shizuoka Hobby Show!
