What is a wood-inlay saw?
The origin of "wood-inlay dolls" dates back nearly 300 years. A craftsman who made willow boxes (Yanagibako) for Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto used leftover materials to create small dolls. He added grooves and dressed them in fabrics from the priest's leftover attire. The saw used to carve these grooves is called a wood-inlay saw. The action of pressing the fabric edges into the grooves is called "wood-inlaying."
The "wood-inlay saw type" follows the shape of this saw blade, reproducing a special blade shape suitable for delicate work in model making.
Applications: Ideal for fine work on plastic models, railroad models, figurines, dioramas, dollhouses, wooden model molds, etc.
