Remember when we were promised that, in the future, kids would go to school in hover-buses, four-armed giant robots would help with construction jobs, and airports would float in the ocean? Shigeru Komatsuzaki, the late artist responsible for many well-executed box art paintings during the Showa period (1926-89), presents fantastic illustrations mostly done in the early 1980s--some of them depicting grim scenarios of natural disasters and war, yet others representing a future of peace and prosperity, with giant arctic-based farms, underwater manufacturing plants, and cities in space.
