Futabasha celebrates the 40th anniversary of Lupin III's debut with this softcover book on his animated exploits, from TV series to movies and nearly annual TV specials. Among the highlights are rankings of the best episodes and scenes by various categories, a section comparing the main gang's mercurial character designs over the years, a detailed look at the guns and cars used, illustration essays by 32 animators, and an interview with creator Monkey Punch. The only drawback is that the three TV series are limited to two color pages apiece, with no listing of episode titles or episode synopses...but then again, with 228 TV episodes in all, that would have to be a book in itself, and the rest of the goodies here make it easy to forgive. The book's first third is in color, with the rest in black and white. A gotta-have for Lupin fans!
