The street racer style, modeled after race cars, became a trend among car-loving youths in Japan during the 1980s. Among these, the modified race cars, equipped with wide slick tires to effectively transfer power to the road and enhance grip performance, often featured over-fenders secured with bolts to cover the tires that protruded from the body. This look became an object of admiration, leading to the emergence of modified cars imitating this style, despite its illegal nature, seen across the country.
Reviving this past street racer style by merging it with modern supercars is Liberty Walk from Aichi Prefecture.
This Hot Wheels model is inspired by the representative vehicle of Mr. Wataru Kato, the founder of Liberty Walk, which recreates the essence of the 1980s street racer based on the fourth-generation Skyline, commonly known as Kenmeri.
It faithfully traces the features of the actual car, including the square-shaped fishing-eye headlights, a dummy oil cooler, and the removal of the rear bumper, which reduces the round four-lamp tail lights to two, known as the one-tail.
