Resident Evil

The Resident Evil series, also known as the ‘Biohazard’ series in Japan, is one of Capcom’s biggest franchises - a long running series of horror action action games focused on zombie outbreaks and other ‘bioterror’ threats and the heroes that deal with them!

The first few Resident Evil games released on the PlayStation console in the late 90’s to much critical acclaim, kickstarting the series with plenty of forward momentum. Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis all offered something different with the same compelling blend of horror and tense action as well as introducing the world to iconic characters like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Leon Kennedy.

Later installments like Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 would make the gameplay more action focused while retaining some elements of classic ‘survival’ horror. The series then went on a hiatus for a while, but returned with a dramatic transformation in Resident Evil VII, which shifted to a first-person view and placed more emphasis on horror exploration in close-quarters environments. This new style was well received and continued with the 8th instalment, Resident Evil Village.

In addition, remake titles of the first four titles have been released, updating the visuals and gameplay style for modern audiences. It’s now easier than ever to get into the Resident Evil series thanks to the wide array of options - you can start from the beginning with the remakes and play in sequential order, or start with 7 and follow the story of Ethan into the 8th title.

After 30 years of Resident Evil titles, the latest instalment in the series, Resident Evil: Requiem, has just released! The game looks set to be a celebration of the whole series, combining elements from all the different titles across two very different gameplay styles. Featured on the left are the 30th Anniversary acrylic stands featuring various characters from the series!

Monster Hunter

Although not the longest running of Capcom’s different series, the Monster Hunter series has now reached a crazy level of global popularity! While already huge in Japan, people across the world rely on Capcom for frenzied, focused monster hunting action!

Beginning in 2004 on the Playstation 2, Monster Hunter games provide exactly what it says on the tin - Monster hunting! Players ride solo or team up in small groups to tackle big boss-fight style challenges against huge and dangerous monsters using special weapons and armor that can be upgraded from Monster parts harvested after each hunt.

The most recent instalment, Monster Hunter Wilds, was a huge hit upon release and is still getting regular content updates to keep players hooked, with an endless loop of new Monsters to fight.

People like Monster Hunter for lots of different reasons, but one major appeal is the design of the monsters. For people interested in monster designs, the Monster Hunter series is a gold mine, offering dozens of unique monster designs with each entry. When it comes to Hobby Goods, these various Monster Hunter designs are celebrated in all of the merchandise, including the plushies and figures of all different types.

Monster Hunter Products

One of the most impressive series from Capcom is the Figure Builders Creators Model series, which offers masterwork sculpts of iconic Monster Hunter monsters.

Last year, we were able to take exclusive original photos. If you're interested in this series but are unsure about making the investment, see below for photos of the Rathalos, Rathian, and Rey Dau creators model prototypes to see the high level of quality you get with the series!

Rathalos/Rathian

There’s a huge amount of detail in the sculpt and paint of the figures of the iconic Rathalos and Rathian monsters, perhaps even more than you might realize at first glance.

One point I appreciate is the level of detail that has gone into recreating the scale and spike texture on both creatures. Across both the Rathalos and Rathian model, you can notice subtle differences in the way the skin of each creature looks, but also differences in texture between the wing and the body. A huge amount of effort has gone into rendering each part of the creature with color, gradients and texture and a lot of thought has also gone into the base.

Shining Thunder Wyvern Rey Dau

Rey Dau’s truly ‘electric’ personality really shines through in this huge figure, which has a really awesome design.

What’s impressive about this figure is the sheer amount of color information on the creature. There’s an interesting purple-blue mixture in the hue of the creature’s talons and tail that stands out in contrast to the ‘shining’ yellow-orange of most of their body.

The blue on the creature's body also matches the shiny blue in the base's gemstones, creating a dazzling visual symmetry between the base and the creature itself.

Rey Dau’s signature aggressive style is captured beautifully in their visage and pose. They’re mid-swipe towards their hunter foe and ready to strike again at a moment’s notice.

Street Fighter

When it comes to moving the needle, Street Fighter is the very definition of ‘influential’ in the world of fighting games. As a huge hit in both arcades and on home consoles, the first Street Fighter game and its sequel, Street Fighter II, are arguably some of the most important fighting games to ever be released.

Several decades later and the series is still going strong. The most recent entry, Street Fighter 6 is beloved in the fighting game community. It arguably has the best lineup of characters in the entire series and combines popular elements from all the previous installments.

Street Fighter is also a series that appeared a lot in other franchises in the form of crossovers, and even other media like movies and comic books continuing to add to its global popularity. A new Street Fighter movie is even in the works right now!

Street Fighter has a loose story which focuses on a tournament of fighters from across the world. Each country has a different representative (for example, series mascot Ryu is from Japan) and there are deeper stories of individual rivalries within this tournament narrative.

It’s impossible to be a fan of Street Fighter and not have a particular favorite character, and Street Fighter in the hobby goods space tends to focus on releases of products of individual characters. Street Fighter merchandise releases are also a little rarer than some other series, but when they do release, they’re always exceptional.

Often, Street Fighter characters appear as character goods, but we’ve also seen many officially licensed figures of characters too, including Nendoroid and Scale figure release, especially for iconic characters like Chun Li and Juri. (Like this iconic Juri that you all loved last year).

Street Fighter is only going to continue to grow in popularity, so we anticipate we’ll also see a lot more merchandise directly from Capcom in the future.

Mega Man

Known to some as ‘Rockman’ but known in the west as ‘Mega Man,’ this is another franchise from Capcom that has had a huge impact on how video games are designed and played. Known primarily for the high levels of difficulty in the game’s side-scrolling platforming action, Mega Man is also a series with a lot of iconic imagery that lends itself well to the world of hobby goods. As each game contains a set of original boss character designs and associated power ups, there are a lot of interesting designs to draw from.

Mega Man itself has also expanded into other sub-series such as Mega Man X and Mega Man Battle Network, as well as the character appearing in other video game crossovers like Super Smash Bros and Marvel Vs. Capcom. The character of Mega Man himself has a very simple design, but it’s one that has become beloved to many.

The Mega Man series has appeared often in kits from Kotobukiya that are very popular on our site, as well as a range of different figure series such as the MDLX series and more.

Whether you’re a fan of classic Mega Man or became a fan of the character from the ‘X’ series or one of his iconic crossover appearances, there’s something on HLJ for you to add to or start your Mega Man collection.

Ace Attorney

We also wanted to give a shout out to another one of Capcom’s major franchises - Ace Attorney. This iconic series is also a heavy hitter for people who like fast paced ‘visual novel’ gameplay, puzzle solving, and legal drama. Players take on the role of rookie defense attorney Phoenix Wright as he embarks on providing a legal defense for a range of eclectic clients

The Ace Attorney series has been dormant for a while, but it’s well loved by its fans for its fun, vibrant characters and its engaging mystery stories. There’s been 6 main numbered titles and several spin-offs focusing on different characters and settings, such as the recent The Great Ace Attorney, which transported the legal drama to 19th Century England.

Ace Attorney fans are eager to hear more about future installments, but until then, there’s plenty of ways for new fans to find the series and existing fans to relive the fun of Phoenix Wright’s adventures!
