Sealab is an underwater experimental facility developed by the U.S. Navy in the 1960s. Various experiments were conducted, including saturation diving and whether humans could live in underwater facilities for long periods of time. The experiment started with Sealab I, which was installed on the seabed at a depth of 58 meters off the coast of Bermuda in 1964 and tested with the participation of four divers; Seals II was produced in 1965, and Sealab III was created four years later. Part of Sealab II was refurbished, and it was lowered to a depth of 185 meters off the coast of San Clemente Island, California, but problems such as water leakage continued, and unfortunately Sealab III was discarded and the Sealab program was finished.
This model kit from Doll & Hobby reproduces Sealab III, the final form of the U.S. Navy's underwater laboratory Sealab, in 1/93-scale. This kit was originally released by Aurora in 1970 and was never resold; Doll & Hobby reproduces this phantom kit with a completely new mold! Its unique appearance, internal details and structure are carefully modeled. Clear parts are provided for the exterior wall parts, so you can enjoy the interior after completion. A set of diver figures is also included to give you an idea of Sealab's size. The kit also includes a display base resembling the ocean floor, along with a nameplate.
