After the catastrophic 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the JR Kesennuma Line had been so badly damaged, that JR EAST proposed that the route be converted to a dedicated BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) route. With the introduction of the Hybrid Hino Blue Ribbon, all of the Kesennuma Line has been occupied by environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles. This model features movable tires and mirror parts.
