The North American B-45 Tornado is a jet bomber developed starting in 1944, with its first flight in 1947; it was sent into action the following year. As the U.S. Air Force's first jet bomber, it had its problems and inadequacies, but in the early days of the Cold War it played an important part in nuclear strategy. It also had an important role in the Korean War and was used by NATO. It was in operation until 1959, and a total of 143 of this aircraft were produced.
