This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
The IAR-80 was developed by the Romanian IAR Brasov factory and used by the Romanian Air Force. It was Romania's first monoplane fighter. In the late 1930s, the Romanian Air Force modernized its forces and licensed production of the Polish P.24E fighter. In response to the rapidly changing situation in Europe, in 1938. the Romanian Air Force asked IAR to develop a new fighter based on the P.24E. IAR used the P.24E airframe and the Gnome et Aune 14K engine, which was also licensed, to complete a prototype at the end of 1940. The prototype, named IAR-80, was adopted by the Romanian Air Force after test flights, and deliveries of mass-produced models began in December 1941, just three years after development began. The Romanian Army participated in Operation Barbarossa along with the German Wehrmacht, which began in June 1941, but due to the difficulty of maintaining the outdated Air Force and the wide variety of aircraft, only the Romanian Air Force aircraft were withdrawn to the home country in December. Then, the Romanian Air Forcer, reorganized with IAR-80s and newly introduced Bf109Es, participated in the Soviet front again, and achieves some success in ground attacks and air superiority until the Red Air Force appeared with Yak-9s and La-5s. In the summer of 1943, about 60 IAR-80s were on air defense duty in the capital of Bucharest and Ploiesti, the largest oil field in Eastern Europe.
