This is a resin or white metal ship model kit.
The BB-40 New Mexico was commissioned in 1918, at the end of World War I. She was the final example of the World War I-type battleship, so she was entered into a large-scale renovation carried out during the disarmament period, commonly called Navy Holiday. Her front and rear basket-shaped masts were removed, and many other features were changed significantly. After the renovation, she was assigned to the Pacific Fleet and used Pearl Harbor as her home port; she was able to avoid the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor as she had joined the Atlantic Fleet by that time. In the Pacific war, she was active in escorting convoys; during the capture of Luzon, a special attack aircraft of the Japanese Navy crashed into her bridge. Many sailors were lost, including the captain; she returned to Pearl Harbor for repairs and took place in the Battle of Okinawa afterward. Another kamikaze aircraft crashed into her at that time, and many crew members were killed or injured. Another round of repairs followed, and the war ended while she was moored at Leyte Gulf; she entered Tokyo Bay via Okinawa and witnessed the signing of the surrender papers on Sept. 2. She was retired in July 1947 and scrapped in October of that same year, ending her turbulent life.
This resin kit from Orange Hobby reproduces the New Mexico as she was seen in 1944, when she was engaged in fierce battle with the Japanese Navy in the Pacific Ocean. She can be built as a full-hull or waterline version; delicate parts such as the handrails and shooting radar are photo-etched parts, and the main gun barrel is made of brass. Order yours today!
