This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Aircraft from Essex provided air cover, reconnaissance, strikes on enemy naval forces, and support for the costly amphibious assaults that the Pacific War was famous for. Later, the Essex served in the Korean War and hauled Apollo 7 astronauts out of the waters off Puerto Rico.
