From the manufacturer:
Kimikawa Maru was the second Kamikawa Maru-Class cargo ship built by the Kawasaki Dockyard Co. at Kobe. On July 15, 1937 she was launched and went into service on the Japan-New York route. The ship was taken over by the IJN and converted into an auxiliary seaplane tender on July 6, 1941, and assigned to the 5th Fleet on September 1, 1941. Later she was re-rated a converted transport. On October 23, 1944 she was sunk by USS Sawfish at WNW of Cape Bojeador. The rail system for the seaplane on the aft well deck and catapults are the distinguishing characteristics of this ship.
