The Takanami-class escort ship is a fourth-generation general-purpose escort ship built as an improved version of the previous Murasame class. It boasts high capabilities, and is active as the main ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The DD-110 Takanami is a full-scale nameship that was commissioned in 2003, and currently operates with Yokosuka as her home port. She was also engaged in overseas missions to the Indian Ocean and off the coast of Somalia. The Sugashima-type minesweeper is a medium-sized minesweeper with a wooden hull that has been in operation since 1999 as a performance-enhanced version of the Uwajima type.

This model kit from Pit-Road can be built as a waterline or full-hull version; an SH-60J anti-submarine patrol helicopter is included, as is a Sugashima-type minesweeper.
