This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

The DDG-173 Kongo is the first of her type of escort ships, built in 1988 and commissioned as the first Aegis-equipped ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in 1993. In 2007, she was refurbished to enable missile defense capability, and in an experiment in Hawaii, she succeeded in intercepting a target missile flying outside the atmosphere at an altitude of 100km or more. She is currently based in Sasebo.

This kit includes various satellite communication antennas and radar added after commissioning. She can be built as a full-hull or waterline version, and the truss part in front of the mast is also included.
