This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The Kurama was commissioned in 1981 as the second of the Shirane type of anti-submarine helicopter escort ships. She was an expanded and improved version of the Haruna type; she also debuted a larger computer in the CIC, which dramatically improved her information processing capabilities. In addition, she carries the Sea Sparrow Short SAM and 20mm CIWS Phalanx for individual ship air defense. The onboard helicopter was changed from the hSS_2B to the SH-60J to further improve her anti-submarine ability. She was very active as the core of the JMSDF's fleet of escorts, but the DHH-184 Kaga entered service in March 2017; after that, the Kurama was retired with much regret.
This kit from Pit-Road recreates the Kurama's appearance just before her retirement. The installation position of the satellite antenna, fin stabilizer, bilge keel shape and other differences from the other Shirane-type ships are carefully reproduced. The included photo-etched parts include the mast truss, mast flat, rattle, helicopter rotors and flagpole. It can be built as either a waterline or full-hull version. Order yours today!
