The Akashi was a ship that the Japanese Navy had long requested, and was finally completed in 1937. Since she had various factories on board, she had a horizontal deck. Her front chimney was dedicated to the ship's factories, and she was equipped with five large derrick trains for damaged parts, repair and replacement parts, and supplies.
