This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The Tachikaze was commissioned in March 1976 as the first ship of its class of second-generation missile destroyers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. She introduced the latest integrated missile system of the time, the Tartar D, which could be equipped with the Standard Missile (SM-1MR). In 1988, her rear turret was removed and a new command center was installed, and the ship became the flagship of the escort fleet; she remained in operation until 2007.
This model kit from Pit-Road can be built as a waterline or full-hull model; it can also be built either as she was seen at her retirement in 2007 after the flagship renovation, or when she was commissioned in 1976. Photo-etched parts are included for the yard, mast, mast flat, OPS-17 anti-surface radar, OPS-11 anti-aircraft radar, ORN-6 antenna, flagpole, life raft rack, gangway, supply station, receiving post stay and more.
