DD-120 Shiranui is the second ship of the Asahi-class destroyers based on the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Akizuki-class destroyer, and is a state-of-the-art general-purpose destroyer that was commissioned on February 27, 2019. As a next-generation escort ship with enhanced anti-submarine capabilities while maintaining a balance in anti-aircraft, anti-ship, and anti-submarine capacities, this ship will play a central role in the escort fleet along with the Akizuki class.
