The LMG 5.56mm machine gun was developed by the Belgian company FN Herstal, and is known as the MINIMI light machine gun. It was designed in 1976, and production began in 1982; it was first deployed in 1984 and is still in use today. The version produced domestically in the United States is called the M249. It was highly evaluated for its high shooting accuracy and excellent reliability, and was often used in the Gulf War.

This 1/6-scale version from Dragon uses 5.56mm NATO bullets. It's been lightly dry brushed to express the texture of the metal for a feeling of heightened reality; a box-type magazine is included.
