This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
The Gannett AEW, which first flew in 1958, was a replacement for the American-made Skyraider early-warning type, equipped with an AN/APS-20 radar at the bottom of the fuselage and replaced with a higher-output engine. AEW stands for "Airborne Early Warning" and refers to early warning aircraft. Because this aircraft carries electronic equipment, the second cockpit, which was located at the rear of previous models, has been eliminated, and the two crew members responsible for operating the radar are seated in parallel seats in the fuselage. As a result, the major external features are the disappearance of the canopy bulge that was in the middle of the fuselage, and the huge radome located at the bottom of the fuselage. The tail has also been redesigned to improve stability. A total of 44 of this aircraft were produced, and it remained in service until 1978, when the Royal Navy decided to discontinue the use of regular fixed-wing carrier-based aircraft; it was retired at that time. There is a view that the loss of the Royal Navy's early warning capabilities due to this aircraft's retirement led to losses in the Falklands War.
This model kit from Sword is a completely new mold! The radar hand cabin is reproduced with injection parts, and the interior can be viewed through the window, or when the hatch is open. Photo-etched seatbelts, painting mask stickers, and decals for two Royal Navy 849 Squadron versions are included. Order yours today!
