Description

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

Pit-Road recently found a pile of Mauve P-40Ms, and we got 'em! Prior to the recent Hasegawa P-40E and P-40N releases, Mauve's P-40s were regarded as the best 1/48 P-40 kits available, if you could find them! Even now, these are outstanding kits, with fine recessed panel lines, detailed cockpits and individual "fishtail" exhausts with recessed open ends. And unlike the Hasegawa kit, there are no inserts or separate fuselage sections to splice together. Easy assembly, good detail, very reasonable price - what more could you ask for? Decals are included for 2 Ms of the 44th FS, 18th FG: "Princess Pat II" of LtCol. R.B. Westbrook and "Reckless Prostitute" of Capt. J.A. Bade. The 44th was based in New Guinea in 1943, which may explain why the painting instructions given for "Reckless Prostitute" call out Australian colors of Foliage Green and Light Gray.

Please note that these kits were sitting in a warehouse for a long time, and while the plastic is in excellent condition, Pit-Road was concerned about the decals. As a result, in addition to the kit decals they have included a bonus set of Cartograf P-40B markings. We looked at the decals from a couple of kits, and they looked OK to us, with no yellowing or fracturing. Still, please be advised that we can make no guarantees about the decals and will be unable to offer replacements. We recommend that if you have any doubts upon seeing the decals in your kit, that you try either applying a clear decal film on top of them before attempting to use them, or alternatively spray the sheet with a clear acrylic topcoat, letting it dry and then cut the decals out from the sheet and use them.

Don't miss this chance to get this rare kit. As far as we can tell, this is the only P-40M available in 1/48 kit form, and when these are gone there will be no more! Get them while you can!
