The Airbus A340-500 holds a special place in the history of Emirates. The aircraft will forever be linked with Emirates' entry into North America, operating the inaugural flight to JFK, New York on June 1st, 2004. The A340-500 was at one time the world's longest-range commercial airliner and it was the first aircraft in the Emirates fleet to have Private Suites in First Class. The suites proved to be a successful template for the current flat bed and sliding door privacy suites that are currently being offered on the Emirates A380-800.
