From the manufacturer description:
USS Yorktown construction commenced in 1934 and officially launched in 1936. She entered service in 1937. After more extensive training and participating in 2 Fleet size war games, USS Yorktown was transferred to the Pacific Fleet in 1940. As WWII broke out, USS Yorktown was transferred back to the Atlantic Fleet in 1941 and took part in the "Neutrality" patrol between Europe and USA to discourage any Nazy attack attempt on the merchant and non-combatant ships. After the unannounced attack of Pearl Harbor, USS Yorktown was transferred back to the Pacific Fleet to fight off the Japanese aggressors. The crew of USS Yorktown fought gallantly and took part in numerous battles and provided protection and support to the US Army and Marines campaigns at American Samoa, Marshall Islands, Gilbert Islands and the Battle of the Coral Seas.
In 1942, USS Yorktown met her fate at the Battle of Midway after her dive-bombers took out the INJ "Soryu". USS Yorktown took multiple hits and was eventually abandoned to her final rest at sea.
