This is a resin or white metal ship model kit.

"USS Northampton is a leader of heavy "treaty cruisers" built during the 1930's. Northampton saw action early and often in 1942. At the side of Enterprise and Hornet, Northampton took part in the famous Doolittle raid in April 1942. She fought in the naval battles surrounding Guadalcanal during the months of August to November 1942. She was lost on November 30, 1942."

"The Yankee Modelworks kit is the first and still only kit of this ship on the market today. Measuring 20.5 inches (52.07cm) long, this kit is highly detailed. The upper hull is cast as a single piece casting split at the waterline so the modeler can have a choice as to build a full hull or waterline model. all the large parts, turrets, bridge, and smoke stacks are cast in resin. All small parts are cast in fine pewter. An extensive photo etched brass sheet is included to finish the kit."
