[Product Description]
The Body 1/35 WWII 22nd SS Volunteer Cavalry Division "Maria Theresa" Soldier 1
The 22nd SS Volunteer Cavalry Division was one of the divisions of the Waffen-SS of Nazi Germany. It was formed around a regiment drawn from the 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer, supplemented by conscripted ethnic Germans from Hungary.
The unit's nickname, "Maria Theresa"-derived from the empress-is unofficial, though the division used the cornflower, a flower she dearly loved, as its insignia.
After formation and training in Hungary, the division first saw action on the Romanian front and later participated in Operation Panzerfaust, in which Otto Skorzeny was involved.
As the Red Army advanced into Hungary, the division was integrated into the 9th SS Mountain Corps defending Budapest. It was eventually surrounded and destroyed after fierce urban combat.
