Lockheed's masterpiece transport aircraft, the C-130 Hercules, began deployment in 1956. It is still in service, and it is widely used around the world as a tactical transport aircraft with high operational capabilities. The design features a high main wing and a thick fuselage, and it's equipped with four turboprop engines. It has strong landing gear and excellent performance at both takeoff and landing on rough terrain, making it highly capable as a modern transport aircraft. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force starting operating it in 1984, and it continues to be active together with the domestically produced C-1 transport aircraft. It is widely known for its participation in the JASDF's peacekeeping operations overseas. In addition, during the civil war that broke out in Sudan in April 2023, it quickly headed to Africa and attracted attention by helping to rescue Japanese people who remained in the area.
