Based on a prototype vehicle developed by Bantam in 1940, it was also produced by Willis and Ford, and it was deployed in combat starting in 1941. It was equipped with a leaf-spring rigid axle on a rudder frame, and was active on all fronts due to its excellent four-wheel-drive running performance, toughness, and high reliability. It was used by the U.S. Army and also by the British Army as a special forces vehicle. Its total production numbers was said to be over 600,000! It was not only used by the armed forces of each country for a long time after the war, but its practicality was highly supported by civilian users, and it helped establish the new genre of the off-road vehicle.
