This is an injection-plastic racing car model kit.
[About the actual car]
The F2 kit car regulations set up in 1994 only allowed for naturally aspirated engines up to 2 liters and 2WD, but the scope of modification was wider than that of the Group A cars of the time, and several manufacturers came forward to enter the race.
One of them was the Peugeot 306 Maxi. It was a FF 2WD rally car developed by Peugeot of France in 1995, equipped with an inline 4-cylinder 2-liter naturally aspirated engine in the front.
The highly tuned engine is said to have produced 250 horsepower, and to take advantage of its power, it was equipped with a 7-speed cross-ratio X-Track sequential gearbox. Combined with a lightweight chassis weighing 960 kg, the car delivered a sharp ride. In tarmac rallies, it showed speeds that threatened turbo 4WD machines.
In 1997, an evolution model with a stronger engine was developed. In tarmac rallies on paved surfaces, the Evolution model was as fast as, and sometimes faster than, the more powerful Lardo rally cars, and attracted much attention.
[About the model]
The model is a 1/24th scale plastic model kit of the Peugeot 306MAXI Evolution Model EVO2. The overall length and width of the finished model is approximately 166mm and 75mm, respectively. The unique form of the EVO2, including the front fenders, is well represented with the addition of new parts. Fog lamps are set on the front using a new mold.
In addition, the interior with roll bar is also modeled with new parts for the EVO2's rally equipment. The underside of the chassis has also been reproduced with a full three-dimensional effect. The details of the chassis also convey the driving qualities of the car.
Markings of the car driven by Gilles Panizzi in the 1998 Monte Carlo Rally, where he won the class championship, are provided as decals.
