The Blue Angels is the U.S. Navy's world-class aerobatic team. Based at the Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Flordia, the Blue Angels were founded in 1946. This team demonstrates the high skill of U.S. Navy pilots; in particular, the Blue Angels are known for their dense formation flights, where the aircraft fly so close to each other than they almost touch! The team has always used the main fighter aircraft of the era; the first aircraft used was the F6F, and the Hornet was used starting in 1986. The early model F/A-18A/B was used first, with the C/D type used starting in 2011; the E/F type Super Hornet has been used since 2021.
