Operation Jericho was one of the British Air Force's bombing operations during World War II, and the name of the operation comes from the story of the Jericho Walls described in the Bible. British intelligence, sensing that a French prisoner was to be executed at Amiens Prison by the German Army, devised a plan to bomb Amiens Prison with Mosquito FB.VIs in order to force the Resistance to escape before the execution. Just as the guards were sitting down to eat at 12:01 on February 19, 1944, bombs fired from 11 Mosquitoes that flew in at low altitude hit the prison, blowing the door open and creating a hole in the outer wall. As a result of this operation, approximately 255 of the roughly 700 prisoners were confirmed to have escaped, but 182 were subsequently arrested. Additionally, 50 guards and 37 prisoners were killed in the chaos of the air raid. On the British side, two Mosquitoes and two Hawker Typhoon escort fighters were lost, and four men were killed.
This model kit from Mark I Model includes parts for one Mosquito FB.VI and decals for four types of aircraft that participated in Operation Jericho. Place your order today!
