This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
The F-2 fighter has been in operation since 2000, and is active as the main fighter of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Its development began in 1988 as a successor to the F-1. Based on the American F-16, development work was carried out jointly by Japan and the United States, taking into account its operation as a Self-Defense Force aircraft and the geographical factors of Japan. In addition to enabling the installation and operation of long-range air-to-ship missiles and ASM, it is also possible to operate air-to-air radar missiles. The F-2 was first deployed to the 3rd Squadron at Misawa Base, and also deployed to the 6th and 8th Squadrons at Tsuiki Base.
The 3rd Air Wing, which belongs to the Northern Air Force under the Air General Corps, was organized at Matsushima Base on Dec. 1, 1957 (Showa 32), then transferred to Gifu Base and Komaki Base, and in 1978 (Showa 53) it was transferred to its current home at Misawa Base. In September 2007, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the 3rd Air Wing; specially painted aircraft were given unique markings that arranged the Roman numeral VX (50) for each machine, such as the F-2A of the 3rd Squadron.
This model kit from Platz features precision parts by F-Toys which accurately express the form of the blended wing shape. Resin parts for the 300-gallon center tank attached to the underside of the fuselage are also included, and decals by Cartograf are included to reproduce the commemorative paint markings with the XV (50) released at the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 3rd Air Wing in 2007; decals for normal markings are also included.
