Description
This is an injection-plastic airliner model kit.
Introducing the new product from Ukraine's AMP: the 1/144 B-747SP Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA).
The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy is a "flying observatory" developed as a joint project between NASA and the German Aerospace Center.
This aircraft was modified from the 747-SP to carry a 2.5m reflecting telescope for infrared observations at an altitude of approximately 12,500m in the stratosphere.
SOFIA began ground testing in 2004, made its first flight in 2007, and conducted its first flight with the telescope door open in 2009.
Observational operations started in 2010, allowing it to observe the Moon, planets, star formation regions, and nearby galaxies. After 921 research flights, it retired in 2022. This product features newly designed injection-molded parts to recreate the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy.
The kit includes etching parts, 3D printed parts, painting mask seals, and one type of NASA decal.
When completed:
Total length: approximately 391mm
Wingspan: approximately 414mm
