This is a pen that uses a gel based ink.

The Uni-ball R:E gel ink ballpoint pen series provides the enjoyment of a smooth gel ink pen, and the convenience of eraseable ink! It's perfect for those who prefer pens over pencils when taking notes, writing memos, and other writing activities! The ink is heat-sensitive, so the friction created by using the eraser end will cause the ink to turn invisible.

The pen ink extends and retracts with a press of the eraser tip, but thanks to the Uni-ball R:E's special locking mechanism, the eraser will lock into place when the pen is turned upside-down. That means you can press as hard as you like while erasing without extending or retracting the ink!
