This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Mikro Mir brings us a completely new 1/144-scale model kit of the Nordenfelt II steam-powered submarine! The Nordenfelt was developed and built for the Ottoman Navy by the Swedish inventor Thorsten Nordenfelt and British inventor George Garrett. The submarine was launched in 1886, and made its first submerged dive in 1887. It subsequently sank a target ship with the first underwater torpedo attack in history! Although the submarine's crew had to shut off its boilers and retract its funnels when submerged, it was able to store steam in steam accumulators while on the surface and use it to power its engines while submerged, allowing it to travel underwater for short periods of time. While this was innovative technology for the time, it lacked speed and range, and its unstable navigation made accurate torpedo firing difficult, ultimately making it unsuitable for combat use.
This model kit includes photo-etched parts and a display stand. Place your order today!
