This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
The Delfino (meaning "dolphin") was the Italian Navy's first submarine, laid down in 1889, launched the following year, and completed in 1892. Commissioned into the Italian Navy in 1895, the ship was maneuvered by two vertical rudders at the stern and one at the bow, as well as two horizontal rudders at the stern and bow. It was also equipped with two vertical-axis propellers for vertical movement underwater, but these were said to have had little effect. For these reasons, the Delfino is considered to have served more as a test ship than a practical warship. Between 1902 and 1904, improvements were made to the ship, including the installation of a 130hp gasoline engine for surface cruising, which increased its maximum surface speed to 10 knots and its range to 306km. At the outbreak of World War I, the ship conducted 44 patrols in the Adriatic Sea, and was also used as a training ship. After the war, the Delfino was placed in reserve and struck from the Navy list in 1919.
