This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
In the late 1990s, the F-14 gained nighttime raid and targeting capabilities with the addition of the LANTIRN pod. Smart bombs, suspended under the fuselage instead of conventional missiles, further enhanced its role as an attack aircraft. During the Afghanistan War that broke out in 2001, the F-14 utilized its long range and flexible operational capabilities to carry out missions despite the harsh conditions of a lack of nearby friendly airfields. Its variable-geometry wing (VG) design provided excellent low-altitude performance and a large payload, making it a highly accurate bomber, marking a spectacular finale to its combat history.
This model kit from Fine Molds recreates the markings worn by aircraft of the VF-154 (a.k.a. the Black Knights) squadron shortly after its return to Japan from Afghanistan in 2003. While the aircraft returned to the U.S. shortly after the replacement with the F/A-18F, its appearance remains memorable to many fans as "the last F-14 seen in Japan." The under-fuselage bomb rack is a new addition. Order yours today!
