The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's F2 fighter jet follows in the footsteps of the F-1, Japan's first domestically produced jet fighter, and was developed after overcoming external pressure and numerous twists and turns with a strict commitment to domestic production. While its appearance resembles the American-made F-16, the two share few common features.
