Description

This is a fixed-pose model of a science-fiction/anime item.

Introducing the "Gamera 1996 (G2)" produced by Yuji Sakai, renowned for his sculpting expertise, now available as a painted and completed figure standing approximately 32cm tall! This masterpiece, originally released as a garage kit during the theatrical run of the 1996 Daiei (now KADOKAWA) film "Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion," made a significant impact on fans and continues to receive support to this day.

The 20cm soft vinyl kit (Sofubi or Sofvi) "Gamera 1996," sculpted by Yuji Sakai, has remained a beloved item. Sakai himself conducted thorough research on set during the original film's production, perfectly capturing every detail of the suit used in filming. Now, after 29 years, the sculpt has been revived with even greater perfection under Sakai's complete supervision. The elite team at Kaiyodo has incorporated new reference materials to create this painted and completed figure! The upgraded details in this product reflect a new sculpt that only Sakai could create at this time. The original sculpt was digitized using the latest 3D scanning technology, specifically CT scanning, allowing for an expansion from the original size of 190mm to 320mm. This process included directly creating molds from 3D prints without using mass-produced molds, aiming to faithfully reproduce the unique qualities of the original sculpt. As a result, the distortion and shrinkage typically seen in soft vinyl products made with traditional lost-wax methods are minimized. Of course, the coloring has also been fully supervised by Sakai.

Unlike conventional mass production painting methods, this figure features a quality finish that resembles the work of a skilled painter, providing a unique touch reminiscent of one-off creations. - Yuji Sakai Profile A leading kaiju sculptor representing Japan and a foremost figure in Godzilla design. Sakai began his professional career as a sculptor after winning the grand prize at the "Artpla Award," hosted by Kaiyodo. His sculpting talent extends beyond figures and significantly influences the suit designs in Godzilla films. He actively participates in kaiju film productions, showcasing his sculpting activities through his company, Yuji Sakai Modeling Studio. Although he has created the most works for Godzilla, his exceptional skills are also well-known for his designs of other kaiju, including Gamera. Recently, he has overseen the general kaiju exhibit at the "Eiji Museum" in Sukagawa City, Fukushima, the hometown of Eiji Tsuburaya. He successfully recreated the original Godzilla suit that no longer exists and was honored as a "Master Craftsman of Fukushima Prefecture" in 2024 for his outstanding skills.
