Ginter Naval Fighters Vol. 37 - the Martin P4M Mercator. A contemporary of the long-lived P2V Neptune, the Mercator started development later and to a different specification: The Neptune was designed as a replacement for the medium-range Ventura bombers, whereas the Mercator was a replacement for the long-range Privateer. The Mercator was 1/3 bigger than a Neptune, and was fitted with two massive R4360 radial engines and two J33 jet engines, with the jets fitted into common nacelles directly behind the radial engines. Although built in smaller numbers than the Neptune, and overshadowed in the patrol aircraft role by that same aircraft, the Mercator played a vital role during the cold war as an electronic warfare aircraft, although of necessity that role kept it out of sight and unrecognized for years. Chock-full of detail photos and drawings which will make this an invaluable guide to anyone wishing to correct and superdetail the Valom kit. Softcover. All text is in English.
