From the manufacturer:
Many very good armored vehicles, which provided useful and successful service in the Western Desert, were developed in South Africa during WW2. The American Marmon-Herrington company stepped into the South African market in the thirties by starting the production of armored vehicles there. The Marmon-Herrington Mk.I started active service in 1940. Serving in the Union Defence Forces, about 1,000 of them were produced. Marmon-Herrington MkI vehicles were used in combat to fight Italians in Eastern Africa.
The production of the improved Marmon-Herrington Mk.III was started in 1941. The Mk.II and Mk.III vehicles were used in combat in cooperation with British units and served from 1941 until the end of the Tunisian campaign. 48 of the Mk.III vehicles were used by Free French units in North Africa. Their armament was often improved by modifications in field workshops, their original weapons exchanged for better British and French ones, even for German and Italian guns. Boys anti-tank rifles and Bren and Vickers machine guns were originally used.
