Description

This is an English-language book or magazine about aircraft and/or aircraft modeling.

This book is written by renowned aviation author and aviation historian Chris Goss, and is based on years of research, including interviews with former crew members, letters, personal testimonies, unit records and reports, to introduce the history of KG 40 (Jagdgeschwader 40), the German Air Force's main maritime counter-shipping and multi-role strike wing.

Formed in 1940, KG 40 successfully conducted operations in Norway and the British coast, the Bay of Biscay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as in North Africa and the Soviet Union.

The unit was equipped with He 111s, Fw 200s, Ju 88s, Do 217s, He 177s, and other aircraft, and in the early stages of the war, the four-engine Fw 200 Condors attacked, damaged or sunk merchant ships in the Atlantic Ocean.

The He 177 bombers, equipped with the most advanced guided bombs of the time, attacked maritime targets in Britain and the Mediterranean Sea. The Ju88C-6 patrolled the Bay of Biscay from 1942 to 1944, escorting U-boats and Axis ships while also inflicting heavy damage on Allied aircraft.
