We spoke with the KEMOPLA team at Aoshima and got some answers directly from the source!
What is Kemopla?
"Kemopla is a customizable model kit that lets you create your ideal Kemono. By combining parts, you can freely adjust the balance between animal and human traits - known as the “Kemo Level” - as well as choose from a variety of Kemono types. With unique silhouettes that set Kemono apart from humans, and countless ways to combine parts to match your personal vision, you can build a one-of-a-kind world that’s entirely your own."
How To Enjoy Kemopla?
"Kemopla's main kit includes parts to build both “high-kemo” and “medium-kemo” versions, allowing you to assemble it at your preferred level of “kemo.”
Using the “Human Parts Set” also lets you reconfigure it into a "low-kemo" version! Beyond adjusting to your preferred kemo level, you can further customize even the smallest details to your liking with optional parts like fur, busts, and tails.
The appeal of Kemono goes beyond just cuteness; it can also be captured from a cool perspective. This allows for posing options not typically seen in beautiful girl plastic models. We incorporated innovative ideas for hip joint articulation, creating a mechanism that makes bold poses easy to achieve."
What Was The Inspiration For Kemopla?
"As the person in charge of planning and developing beautiful girl plastic models, the need for our own IP has been growing recently. When identifying cute elements for the characters at the planning stage, “Kemomimi” (humans with animal ears and tails) was one important point we wanted to incorporate.
However, if the design is too simplistic, it can easily become generic when establishing an original series. Therefore, the project began with the idea: Why not focus on characters with a strong “kemono” aesthetic within the beast-human category, like those with distinct muzzles and bodies covered in fur? From a marketing perspective, we also sensed a large potential overseas fanbase for “kemono,” so we anticipated it would generate buzz from the start. The reactions to Kemopla on SNS and in other media confirmed that there is solid demand.
As our first installment, we selected major kemono like “cat” and “wolf,” but kemono encompass a wide variety of creatures. There are also ungulates like goats and horses, as well as reptiles, so we hope you'll look forward to future series developments."
Last week, HobbyLink Japan’s Adam embarked on a brand new journey - building a Kemopla kit for the first time. See what he thought of the process in our new blog post over on HobbyPost!
