The Corrado debuted in 1988 as the 4th generation specialty car of Volkswagen. While utilizing components from Volkswagen's core model, the FF hatchback Golf, the Corrado featured a higher level of sports performance, with the inclusion of a high-powered version equipped with a supercharger, resulting in a significant price increase.

The VR6, the inspiration for this release, was introduced as the strongest version during the 1991 minor change. It was equipped with Volkswagen's first V6 engine (190 horsepower), reaching a top speed of 235 km/h. Rather than simply replicating the normal Corrado, Hot Wheels has transformed it, featuring modifications such as a wide-open bumper revealing an intercooler, thick tires conveying its power, and miniaturizing it into a tuner-style model covered by overfenders.

This Corrado VR6 is a debut appearance of a new mold item.
