Before being absorbed by Nissan, the Skyline was released in 1957 as the core model of Prince Motor Company.
The company had long been focused on motorsport activities to showcase its technical prowess, with one of the highlights being the competition vehicle based on the second-generation Skyline, the GT.
The second-generation Skyline was a family sedan equipped with a fuel-efficient 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, but to achieve victory at the second Japanese Grand Prix, Prince Motor Company forcibly extended the body of its powerful 2-liter 6-cylinder engine from the large luxury sedan, Gloria, and manufactured about 100 units of the GT to obtain homologation.
Despite being well-prepared for the second Japanese Grand Prix, the victory was taken by a privately-entered Porsche 904, but the Skyline GT dominated the top positions afterwards.
Since then, the Skyline GT has been loved by car enthusiasts as a synonym for high-performance sedans to this day.
Hot Wheels has recreated this car using a new mold.
The coloring is inspired by the #39 machine of driver Yoshikazu Sunako, who finished 2nd in the GT-II class at the second Japanese Grand Prix, following Porsche.
