Description
This is a Japanese-language illustration (art) book.
Obata Takeshi is best known for collaborations on various series that have become incredibly popular; as a friend of mine recently noted, "[Obata's work] has style to spare." It's all superbly-detailed, beautifully coloured, and there is absolutely no doubt that Obata knows how to draw people (something a number of artists don't know how to do!). While Obata's most recent work,
Death Note, is being used to promote this particular collection of illustrations, the book also contains full-colour illustrations from
Hikaru no Go,
Karakuri Zoushi Ayatsuri Sakon and other works on which the artist has collaborated. Pull-out posters, textured paper, and a section in the back of the book detailing the step-by-step process by which Obata creates an illustration, from concept to finish, add to the value of this incredible volume. Three two-sided laminated posters and a
Death Note postcard are included as bonus items; all these, plus the hardcover book itself, are contained within a 'frame-cut' case that allows you to peek through and see the book cover if you like, or part of one of the posters if you have them positioned there. The book is
very heavy; take note of this before ordering, as the weight will affect shipping costs (but for a fan, it will
definitely be worth it!).
