Description

This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.

One of the half-tracks developed by the U.S. military in World War II is the M3/M3A1 half-track. It was developed as a personnel carrier based on the M2 half-track, which was developed for towing a 105mm howitzer. In addition to extending the rear troop compartment to increase the number of people that could be accommodated, the rear was equipped with a door for lifting and lowering, and the ammunition storage case had been abolished so that the troop compartment could hold ten fully armed soldiers. It was formalized in 1940, and mass production began in 1941. After 12,499 of this vehicle were produced, starting in 1943 production shifted to the M3A1, an improved version equipped with an M49 ring-mount machine gun mount on the upper part of the cockpit. 2,862 of this vehicle were produced by 1944. In addition, the M3A2 type, which was equipped with a rack for mines and equipment on the rear and side of the hull, was also formalized, with the aim of standardizing the hull of the M2 and M3. Each series of M3 half-tracks, which was made by changing the rear wheels to tracks, also drove the front wheels, so they had excellent running performance on rough terrain, and were widely used on each front until the end of the war.

This model kit from Waltersons is of the M3A1 type of half-track. It's molded in olive drab to match the color of U.S. military vehicles; the shape of the hull is firmly reproduced. The underside of the hull, the details on the chassis frame, and the suspension mechanisms are all realistically modeled. The tracks are a belt type made of resin with excellent flexibility, and a driver figure is included. Three machine guns are also modeled to the body. Decals for the 4th Infantry Battalion 5th Armored Division in Normandy in June 1944 are included. Order yours today!
