Description

This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

In August 1990, following the Iraqi military's invasion of Kuwait, Western nations, led by the United States, immediately formulated countermeasures and began deploying their forces to the Middle East. After issuing an ultimatum to the Iraqi forces demanding their withdrawal, Operation Desert Shield was officially launched.

The U.S. Air Force's initial deployment consisted of F-15C fighters from the 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron (71st TFS), part of the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing (1st TFW), which were stationed in Saudi Arabia. This unit was the very first U.S. combat force to arrive in the theater to support Operation Desert Shield. Additionally, other units -- including the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing (33rd TFW) -- were dispatched to various airbases throughout Saudi Arabia.

When Operation Desert Storm commenced on January 17, 1991, the various F-15 units were tasked with escorting strike aircraft. They proceeded to shoot down Iraqi Air Force MiGs, Mirage F-1s, and other aircraft as soon as they took to the skies. By the end of the Gulf War, the F-15 had amassed a confirmed tally of 35 aerial victories (including helicopters) without suffering a single loss or being shot down itself -- making the air campaign a completely one-sided affair.

This model kit from Fine Molds features newly tooled parts to accurately reproduce the vertical stabilizers, which are fitted with the specific rear warning antennas appropriate for this aircraft variant. The included decal sheet features markings for three specific aircraft: an aircraft from the 33rd TFW featuring the "Gulf Spirit" nose art; a "MiG-killer" aircraft adorned with kill markings; and an aircraft from the 71st TFS, also displaying its aerial victory markings.
