The D-1 is a full-scale experimental glider built to investigate aerodynamic performance during the development of Tachikawa Aircraft's G600 twin-engine advanced trainer. This aircraft is treated as a civilian aircraft, and its name was given by the Ministry of Communications' Civil Aviation Bureau. It was built by Japan Aviation Industry Co., Ltd., and development began in 1939. Its first flight was on June 21, 1943, contributing to the development of the G600 twin-engine advanced trainer. The aircraft was made entirely of wood, with a crew of four, and the towing aircraft was the Type 90 Aircraft Work Trainer.
